Appearance

Male Phidippus regius "Apalachicola" develop striking adult colours as they mature. Mature males are typically black with crisp white markings and iridescent green or blue chelicerae (fangs), creating a bold contrast that makes this locality especially popular. Mature females typically display a range of soft tan, orange, grey or chocolate brown tones, sometimes white, with with distinctive white or cream markings across the abdomen and cephathorax. They are well known for their vibrant iridescent chelicerae, which are most commonly pink, purple, gold or blue/green depending on the individual and lighting.

Juveniles will continue to change colour and pattern through successive moults before reaching their final adult appearance.

Care Requirements

• Enclosure: A well-ventilated arboreal enclosure with climbing opportunities and secure anchor points for webbing.
• Temperature: Ideally 22–28°C.
• Humidity: Moderate humidity with good ventilation. Light misting is usually sufficient, allowing the enclosure to dry between mistings.

Feeding

Jumping spiders regularly moult as they grow. During this time they may refuse food and remain inside their web retreat. This is completely normal. Avoid disturbing your spider during the moulting process and wait until it has fully hardened before offering food again.
